MADISON - The levy will be increasing slightly in Madison County this fiscal year.
At the Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday the budget and property tax amount were discussed and voted on.
Chairman Troy Uhlir said the total budget is about $700,000 higher than it was a year ago and now sits at $53.3 million.
"In large, that $700,000 is eaten up by deferred maintenance on the building as we're doing the electrical, HVAC, and new phone system. The remainder of what's there is moving the dispatch center to Norfolk. Had we not taken those expenses on, we could have potential seen a reduction over last years ask."
The new levy rate will be at 3.7 cents, half a cent higher than last year, and intended to raise $16.4 million in property taxes.
The budget and property tax request were unanimously approved.
