Madison County Commissioners 2021

MADISON - A rancher got approval from the Madison County Commissioners to increase his livestock feeding operation.

At the Board meeting Wednesday, a conditional use permit was sought by Tom Pfeifer for the operation of up to 999 cattle located on 826th Road outside of Madison.

Zoning Administrator Heather McWhorter said he currently has 300 cattle.

Tom said all gate panels will be portable.

"If something happens, like Dave my neighbor gets unhappy with me, I'll be in and out. I'm not going to pour a lot of concrete or set a lot of posts. The 999 cattle is because that's the next level instead of 500. I know I can't put 999 head on 40 acres."

Pfeifer said he submitted a letter to the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy and will use their recommendations.

The conditional use permit was unanimously approved.
