Derek Martin - National Outstanding Young Farmer

KANSAS CITY, MO - Every year, the outstanding achievements of American’s young agriculturists are featured with the National Outstanding Young Farmers Award Program.

It’s the country’s longest running national young farmer recognition awards program.

Derek Martin, a farmer in central Illinois, who won the award in 2019 tells News Talk WJAG, it’s a great program that brings farmers together from across the country.

Martin says winning was based on family, community involvement, and especially conservation.

"That was a huge part of what we do, from CRP acres to no-till strip-till, and even cover crops. We also use biologicals, because in a teaspoon of soil there's more living organisms that people on the planet."
