Norfolk Police arrested a man Monday evening after receiving a call about a disturbance.

Captain Mike Bauer says police were called to the 300 block of West Bluff Avenue around 6:15 p.m.  Upon arrival, police spoke with a female that said she and 30-year-old Jose A. Zavala of Norfolk were in a verbal argument where Zavala grabbed her face and threatened to hit her. Zavala then threw a trashcan at her, which contained a glass jar, and hit her in the head.

Officers attempted to talk with Zavala about the incident and appeared to be intoxicated.  Two witnesses at the scene were also interviewed and matched their stories with the females.

Zavala was arrested for third-degree domestic assault.
