HOWELLS - A Northeast Nebraska Cattle producer says supply chain disruptions are still making it difficult to receive competitive bids and prices for cattle.

Steve Ruskamp, who owns a large feedlot near Howells, says events like COVID-19 and the Holcomb, Kansas fire put more cattle into the supply chain then what processors can handle.

Steve’s wife Joan says their biggest challenge right now is getting people to bid on cattle.

"We can manage our risk the best we can using the futures market, but because of several events that put a lot more cattle into the system then what the supply chain could handle for processing, has made it difficult for those of us in the finishing segment to get our cattle bid on and for a good price."

Steve said he’s hopeful the issues resolve itself and expects when it happens, it will happen quickly.
