NORFOLK - A traffic stop led to the arrest of both passengers Friday night.
According to Captain Mike Bauer, a Norfolk Police officer saw a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road in the 200 block of North 2nd Street and a male passenger had exited the vehicle carrying a pizza box.
The officer stopped to check on the vehicle. The officer learned that this male was a Door Dash delivery person and was there to deliver the pizza.
The officer then had contact with the driver of the car whom he recognized as 22-year-old Arachalys Chavez Correa of Norfolk.
A check of her license showed that it was currently under suspension. When the male returned to the car, Correa explained the situation as the male only spoke broken English. The male was identified as 36-year-old Sergio Salazar Pena of Columbus.
The male then retrieved a child car seat and some miscellaneous item from the car as is it was going to be towed. The officer was standing nearby and saw a glass pipe on the floorboard of the car as Salazar Pena was removing the items.
The officer asked Salazar Pena to step back and went to retrieve the pipe. The pipe had been moved to under the seat but the officer located it.
It tested positive for methamphetamine. Both were questioned about the pipe and both were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Chavez Correa also was arrested for driving under suspension. Both were housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
