WINSIDE - For the second time in as many years, a teacher at Winside Public Schools is facing allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Facebook page, sheriffs received information of a teacher involved in a sexual relationship with a student in the school district. Sheriff Jason Dwinell says 25-year-old Cali Heikes, a family consumer sciences and library teacher at Winside, was arrested Sunday on allegations of having a sexual relationship with said student.

Heikes was housed in the Antelope County Jail and posted bond following Monday’s hearing. Sheriff Dwinell says the investigation is still ongoing and additional information cannot be released at this time. The school has placed Heikes on administrative leave.

The arrest marks the second time a teacher from Winside has been arrested on allegations of having a relationship with a student. According to Austin Svehla of the Norfolk Daily News, former art teacher Rachel McPhillips was charged in May of last year with third-degree sexual assault and child abuse. Her case is still pending in Wayne County Court.
