Norfolk Seniors baseball staves off elimination by beating Grand Island Home Federal; will host Gretna tonight

In Nebraska American Legion Baseball Tournaments yesterday, at the A-6 Seniors Tournament in Norfolk, Norfolk staved off elimination with a 13-7 victory over Grand Island Home Federal.  Ryland Bates was 4-5 with a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored.  Nolan Strand went 3-5 with three RBI, and two runs scored.  Jared Ertzner was the winning pitcher for Norfolk.  They improve to 16-18 on the season. 

In other scores in the tournament, Gretna clipped Fremont 7-6 and Columbus routed South Sioux City 11-3.  In games today, Columbus meets Fremont in a 3:00 elimination game and Norfolk plays Gretna at 7:00.  At the A-6 Juniors Tournament at Fremont, the Norfolk Juniors’ season has come to an end after a 6-3 loss to the Gretna 1 team.  Norfolk finishes 11-14 for the season.  Also, the Columbus Juniors were beaten by Fremont 5-1.  At the Class ‘B’ Juniors State Tournament at Waverly, Pierce routed Blair 11-1, Beatrice beat Waverly 5-2, Chadron hammered Central City 12-3, and Arlington clipped Broken Bow 5-4.  Pierce will play Beatrice this evening at 6:00.  In the Class ‘C’ Tournament at Pender, the host team staved off elimination with an 8-5 victory over Wisner/Pilger/Beemer.  Pender will host Syracuse in a 1:00 elimination game today.
